Both N2O and CO2 have simliar rates of diffusion under same conditions of temperature and pressure? Explain.

Solution

Dear student,

According to Graham's law of diffusion, the rate of diffusion or effusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the square root of the molar mass of the gas .
rate α 1MM = molar massmolar mas of N2O = 28 + 16 = 44molar mass of CO2 = 12 + 32 = 44As they both have same molar masses hence the rate of diffusion will be same for bothunder similar conditions.
