Hibernation is period of inactivity in cold weather, also known as winter sleep. It takes place in animals like bears, squirrels, bats, garter snakes, moths and mice, etc. Animals undergo hibernation to protect themselves from cold and save energy.
While, aestivation is inactivity of an animal in hot dry season, also known as summer sleep. It takes place in animals like crocodile, snail and frogs. Animals undergo aestivation to cool their body in hot summers.
