Mitochondria are membrane-bound organelles found in the cytoplasm of all eukaryotic cells that generate the cell’s primary energy molecule ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
Mitochondria are known as the powerhouse of the cell because it is responsible for the extracting energy from food through cellular respiration. Thenafter, the energy is released in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is the energy currency of the cell.
