The constitution of India empowers the Union government to create new states out of existing states or to merge one state with other.This is called as state reorganisation.The first sate reorganisation act was passed in 1956 which was meant to form some new states.Kerala was created by the state reorganisation Act,1956 and many other states were also created like Karnataka,Gujrat etc.
