Dear Student,
Near Bombay there were vast black soil tract of western India which is suitable for cotton crops and cotton was grown. So due to this fisrt cotton mill in India was set up in Bombay in 1854. It was set up as Spinning mill.
And, as its production increases Bombay grew as an important port for the export of raw cotton from India to England and also to China.
So when Cotton textiles will came up then they could get enough supplies of raw material with ease.
By 1900 there were 84 mills operating in Bombay.
Regards.
