Question

briefly describe an experiment arrangement for observing scattering of light in colloidal solution.

Solution

The scattering of light from colloidal suspension is being done using a technique called "Dynamic light scattering" or DLS.In this methodusing a focused laser line, detector detects the scattering intensities from colloids at different instance of time and finally correlate teh intensity fluctuations(as I(t)=I0±δI) with respect to time intervals.this is being calculaetd using autocorrelation function called g2(τ)=<I(t) I(t+τ)>t<I(t)>2from the autocorrealtion we can find characteristic dynamical decay time of the system which indeed provide some inherent microrheological properies like visco elastic modulus, mean square displacement etc after further numerical processing.
