Solution
Refineries
separate crude oil into a wide array of petroleum products through a series of
physical and chemical separation techniques. Refineries are generally
considered a major source of pollutants.
Many of
these pollutants are typically emitted into the environment over the course of
a year. The combination of volatile hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen
also contribute to ozone formation which is one of the most important air
pollution problems.
