Solution:
India’s climatic condition is known as monsoon type. There are mainly two types of monsoons. They are the Southwest monsoon and Northeast monsoon which is also known as ‘retreating monsoon’
Southwest Monsoon
When there is low pressure on the Tibetan Plateau due to the heating up of land, the winds blow from the Arabian Sea towards the Indian landmass. This wind carries moisture which gives rainfall to almost the entire Indian landmass. Since the direction of the wind is in the south-west direction, it is known as South-west Monsoon
Northeast Monsoon
During the month of October/November, low pressure becomes weak over the northern plains and a high-pressure system is developed. Due to this, the southwest monsoon starts weakening and withdrawing in a gradual way. The low-pressure conditions slowly get transferred from north-western India to the Bay of Bengal which results in cyclonic depressions. These cyclones cause heavy and widespread rain on the eastern coast of India. Since the direction of winds is reversed in the northeast direction, it is called as North-east Monsoon.
