Briefly describe the structure and functions of cell wall.
Structure of the cell wall :
- The cell wall is the surrounding structure of the plant cell which is made up of fibrous polysaccharide (carbohydrate) called cellulose.
- The cell wall also contains thousands of cellulose molecules bound together by pectins and hemicellulose.
The functions of cell wall:
- The cell wall permits the plant cell to become turgid.
- It provides mechanical strength to support the cell.
- It shows a freely permeable nature to water and substances present in the solution.
