Briefly describe the transport of CO2 in the blood.

CO2 can be transported in the blood in the following forms:
  • Dissolved in the blood (solution) directly.
  • In the form of bicarbonate ions, i.e carbon dioxide bound with water to form carbonic acid.
  • Bound with proteins such as haemoglobin to form carbaminohaemoglobin.
