A human egg is covered by three layers- Inner vitelline membrane, middle zona pellucida, and outer corona radiata. Internally, the egg possesses a central nucleus surrounded by the cytoplasm. The yolk is absent in human egg or ovum and is called alecithal egg. During maturation, the ovum extrudes 2 to 3 polar bodies on one side, called animal pole. The opposite side of animal pole is called vegetal pole.
