The rise of Fascism and Nazism is owed to the following factors:
  • Treaty of Versailles: During the signing of the treaty Italy did not get the desired share of territories it wanted. Similarly, Germany lost a few territories to its neighbours and the Allies.
  • Economic Crisis: Both Italy and France were suffering an economic crisis after the First World War. The working class had participated in several lockouts and strikes. Moreover, Germany had to pay for the damages it caused during the war.
  • Popular Leaders: The people of Germany and Italy were desperate for a strong leadership as the existing governments failed to save the economy. At this time, Hitler and Mussolini came up. Both of them had magnetic personalities and extraordinary political abilities.
