Biomedical waste:

  1. Waste may be defined as unusable and unwanted materials.
  2. Biomedical or hospital waste is the hazardous waste of hospitals, health centers, clinics, etc.
  3. It includes many infectious materials such as needles, syringes, used dressing and bandages, swabs, human parts, bags, bottles, chemicals, etc.
  4. In earlier days, biomedical wastes were dumped over garbage which was removed and disposed of by municipalities.
  5. The harmful effects of biomedical waste include harm to the handlers, the spread of numerous diseases, and soil pollution.
  6. To prevent the harmful effects of biomedical waste, open dumping has been banned. It is now collected in specially designed bags and disposed of through incineration.
