Briefly explain the four elements of Directing.
The four elements of directing are supervision, motivation, leadership and communication.
(i) Supervision : Supervision is the function of assuring that the work is being done as per plan and instructions. It focuses on managing and controlling the subordinates towards effective completion of tasks.
(ii) Motivation : Motivation is a psychological factor that inspire an individual to act towards a desired goal. It is a force or influence that stimulates subordinates/employees to act or work eagerly for accomplishing organisational goals.
(iii) Leadership : Leadership is process whereby an individual influences and impresses with the will of a leader to a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.
(iv) Communication : Communication means a mutual exchange of facts, ideas, opinions or emotions between two or more people. In organisations, there are two types of communication — formal communication and informal communication, used for decision-making and planning relevant resources, scheduling of tasks etc.
