Solution

The process of fertilisation in human beings is as follows:

  1. The male gamete (sperm) is produced by males and each sperm has 23 chromosomes (haploid).
  2. The female gamete (ovum) is produced by females and each egg has 23 chromosomes (haploid).
  3. The sperms are released into the vagina in a process called insemination.
  4. These sperms migrate through the uterus and encounter the ovum released by the ovary in the fallopian tube.
  5. The fusion of the nuclei of the male and female gametes occurs in the ampullary region of the fallopian tube.
  6. This process of fusion of gametes is called Fertilization.
  7. Fertilization results in the formation of a zygote (diploid).
