The microscopic gap present between the terminal end of the axon of one neuron and the dendron or axon or cell body of another neuron is called the synapse.
Through the synapse nerve impulses are transmitted by neurotransmitters or electrical ions from the presynaptic neuron to the postsynaptic neuron.
There are three types of synapses such as a. Chemical synapse(impulses are transmitted by neurotransmitters) b. Electrical synapse (impulses are transmitted by ions) and c. Conjoint synapse(impulses are transmitted by both chemical as well as electrical signals).
