Solution

Building of big dams has some serious problems associated with it, stated as below:
  • 1. Construction and maintenance of dams is very expensive.
  • 2. It causes a major ecological harm. It interferes with natural and normal functioning of ecosystems and a grave damage to the biodiversity.
  • 3. There is an unprecedented damage to the natural habitat of organisms followed by their eradication from their natural habitat.
  • 4. Large dams cause sedimentation in the water body leading to warming up of water resulting in death of aquatic life.

  • Solution to the problem of sedimentation is construction of relatively smaller dams with integrated outputs.
