Solution

The correct option is A Bulb 1 will get fused.
We know that resistance of bulb will be

R=V2ratedPrated

R1=(200)230 Ω, R2=(200)260Ω

Since, both bulbs are in series combination, so equivalent resistance will be

Req=R1+R2=(200)220 Ω

So, current in circuit will be

i=VReq=400(200)2/20=15 A

So voltage across the bulbs will be :

V1=iR1=15×200230=266.67 V,

V2=iR2=15×200260=133.33 V

Hence, voltage across first bulb will be greater than 200 V. So, it will get fused.

Hence, option (a) is correct.
Why this question?
Key concept: If actual voltage across a device exceeds its voltage rating, it is likely to get damaged.

Tip: In series if any one bulb gets fused then others will not glow.
