Solution
When a temperature is very less, the water of the sea gets frozen into ice .Large masses of such ice some times float from the northern seas into the open sea .
As the density of ice is less than that of sea water,it floats with only a part of it above the sea level.
Large masses of ice look like mountains and are known as icebergs.
The unseen or unobserved volume of an iceberg, floating in a sea is 9 times more than the tiny part of its total volume seen floating above water.
Because of this huge hidden volume, they pose a serious threat to any ship that may, unfortunately, collide with an iceberg.
The high profile luxury ship ‘Titanic’ that sank into the sea after colliding with an iceberg on its maiden voyage.
