Question

By constructing a rectangle WXYZ, of height = 5cm and base =4.8 cm, find the length of the diagonal of the rectangle (in cm) up to the nearest integer.

Open in App
Solution

Fist we draw a line YZ=4.8 cm
Make angle 90 at point Y ,And draw a line cut at point Y, YX =5 cm by compass
After that with compass make cut from point X ,4.8 cm and cut at point Z , 5 cm both cuts meeting at point W
Join W from X and Z we get rectangle XYZW
As per Pythagoras theorem
(xz)2=(xy)2+(YZ)2=(5)2+(4.8)2=25+23.04=48.04
Then diagonal of rectangle =XZ==6.937
