Solution

Air is a mixture of gases as -

  • It consists of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and many other gases that can be separated by the fractional distillation method.
  • Air shows the properties of all the gases present in it. For example - air support combustion due to the presence of oxygen gas in it.
  • Air can be separated into its constituents like oxygen, nitrogen, etc., by the physical process of fractional distillation.
  • carbon dioxide turns lime water milky and air also turns lime water milky, though very, very slowly.
  • Air has a variable composition because at different places different amounts of gases are present in the air.

Thus, we can say that air is a mixture of gases.
