Question

By Newton's universal law of gravity F = G?M?m/R^2, force of attraction between 2 objects is directly proportional to there masses. But Gallileo Gallille said the rate of acceleration due to gravity experience by object is equally for any object in absence of air. So as we double the mass of an object so the force of attraction should also be double. And as it is double rate of acceleration due to gravity experience by object should also increase. So object of different mass should be atttacted at different rate of acceleration due to gravity. But these violetes Gallileo Gallille law. Why?

Solution

Dear Student,
Galileo’s Laws of Acceleration states that rate of acceleration of naturally falling bodies is independent of the mass of the object and because rate of acceleration due to gravity doesn't get doubled when mass of the object is doubled, only force is increased. That is force between the two objects.
