Common name are the elements of Group 1 and Group 17

Group 1 : Alkali metals

• The same group elements are done based on the outermost shell electrons. The bonding is done by this outermost shell electrons.
• Group 1 is of alkali metals and number of electrons for bonding is 1.
• The metals in group 1 are alkali in nature because the valance shell electron make it octet configuration by donating the electron. So they are called as Alkali Metals.

Group 17 : Halogens

• Group 17 is of halogens and number of electrons for bonding is 7.
• Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine are the group 17 elements
• These elements form salts and hence known as Halogens.
