C2H2NaNH2−−−−ExcessCCCH3Br−−−ExcessCH3CCCH3HBr−−−ExcessCH3CH=CHCH3(cis)

Excess of soda amide abstracts 2 acidic H atoms from acetylene.
This is followed by reaction with 2 moles of methyl bromide to form 3-butyne.
In the final step, hydrogenation with Lindlar's catalyst forms cis-2-butene. H2/Pt cannot be used as the hydrogenation proceeds further to form butane.
