● Grafting is a method of artificial propagation of plants to obtain the characteristics of two plants in a single plant.
● The process is done as follows:
a. Stock (cut stem with roots), the lower part is prepared by making a slant cut on the stem,
b. Scion (cut stem without the roots), the upper part is prepared by cutting in a slant manner so as to fit over the stock.
c. Scion is placed over the stock and bound tightly with a cloth and covered in a polythene sheet.
d. It needs to be ensured that the cambium layer of the scion is in contact with the cambium layer of the stock.
e. Soon, the cuts heal and they both now grow as the same plant.
f. The scion starts producing its original aerial parts but receives water and minerals for food from the chosen stock.
