Question

(c) Why do we need to balance chemical equations?

Open in App
Solution

  • According to the Law of conservation of mass, atoms can neither be created nor be destroyed during a chemical reaction.
  • Thus, a chemical equation needs to be balanced to make the number of atoms of each element on either side equal.
  • Example: <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> C+O2 → <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> CO2 , is a balanced equation where the number of atoms of each element on reactant and product side are equal.
