Solution
Ca(OH)2 is called lime water and Ba(OH)2 is called baryta water.
Lime water and baryta water are used to detect CO2. When CO2 is bubbled through these solutions, they become turbid or milky due to the formation of a suspension of solid particles of CaCO3 or BaCO23.
Baryta water is rather too sensitive as it gives a positive test for CO2 by exhaling breath on it, whereas with lime water, breath must be blown thhrough the solution as bubbles.
