Calcium chloride when dissolved in water dissociates into its ions according to the following equation. CaCl2(aq)Ca2+(aq)+2Cl-(aq). Calculate the number of ions obtained from CaCl2 when 222g of it is dissolved in water.

Step 1: Finding the molecular mass of Calcium chloride:

The molecular mass of 1mole of CaCl2 = 111g

So, for the 2molesofCaCl2 would be equivalent to 222g.

As the 1 formula unit of CaCl2 is giving 3 ions.

So, 2moles of CaCl2 would give = 2×3=6ions.

Step 2: Finding the total number of ions dissolved.

Because Numberofions=Numberofmolesofions×Avogadronumber

As,Avogadronumber=6.023×1023

Therefore, Numberofions=6×6.023×1023

Numberofions=36.132×1023

Therefore, the number of ions obtained from CaCl2 when 222g of it is dissolved in water = 3.6132×1024ions
