This is because dissociation of one molecule of PCl5 gives one molecule of PCl3 and one molecule of Cl2.
Also, MPCl5=MPCl3+MCl2
Let, initially 2n moles of PCl5 be present.
Then, Mavg=2n×208.52n=208.5 g/mol
After 50% dissociation, the mixture contains n moles of PCl5, n moles of PCl3 and n moles of Cl2.
Then Mavg=n×208.5+n×137.5+n×713n=138.33 g/mol
The percentage change in Mavg of the mixture =208.5138.33208.5×100=33.65%
