Solution

The correct option is D 8.16×107 M and 4.08×107 M
Given, Ksp(AgSCN) = 1012 and Ksp(AgBr) =5×1013

Let the simultaneous solubility of AgSCN be x and that of AgBr is y.

Then:
AgSCN(s)Ag+x+y(aq)+SCNx(aq) AgBr(s)Ag+x+y(aq)+Bry(aq)

Ksp(AgSCN)=1012=x(x+y)....(i)
Ksp(AgBr)=5×1013=y(x+y)....(ii)

Dividing eq (i) by eq (ii),
xy=2
x=2y
Putting in eq (ii)
3y2=5×1013
y=4.08×107 M and x=2y=8.16×107 M.

Hence, simultaneous solubility of silver thiocyanate and silver bromide in water is 8.16×107 M. and 4.08×107 Mrespectively.
