Question

Calculate the acceleration due to gravity on the surface of Mars having a mass of 6.4x1023 and a radius of 3.37x106m.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1 : Given data,

Mass of Mars, m=6.4x1023kg

Radius of Mars, R=3.37x106m

Universal gravitation constant, G=6.67x10-11Nm2kg-2

Step 2 : Formula used,

Accelertaion due to gravity, g=Gxm(R)2

Step 3 : Putting values,

g=6.67x10-11x6.4x1023(3.37x106)2

g=6.67x6.43.37x3.37x10-11+(23)+(-12)

g=3.8ms-2

Hence, the value of g on mars is 3.8ms-2.
