Question

Calculate the amount of CO2 that could be produced when 2 moles of carbon are burnt in 16g dioxygen.

Open in App
Solution

Solution:
Total molecular weight of CO2 = molecular weight of carbon + molecular weight of dioxygen.
= 12g+32g=44g
1 mole of carbon(6g) and 1 mole of dioxygen (32 g ) produce 44 g of carbon dioxide CO2
Then 1 mole of carbon burnt with 16 g of oxygen , it will produce 44× 16 /32 = 22 g of CO2
so when 2 mole of carbon burnt with 16 g of oxygen , it will produce 22×2 g of CO2
i.e 44g of CO2will be generated.
Hence, 22×2=44g is the answer.
