Question

Calculate the amount of work done required in moving 28×1020 electrons across two points of a wire with a potential difference of 14 V.

Open in App
Solution

Given:
Potential difference, V=18 V
No. of electrons, n=28×1020
Magnitude of charge on an electron, e=1.6×1019 C

So total charge that has to be moved is:
Q=ne
Q=28×1020×1.6×1019 C
Q=448 C

Work done in moving this amount of charge,
W=VQ
W=14 V×448 C
W=6272 J
