Question

Calculate the angle of incidence of the light ray incident on a surface of a plastic slab of refractive index 3, if the angle of refraction is 30o.
(Use: sin 30o=12 and sin 60o=32)

Open in App
Solution

Given: Light is travelling from air medium to the plastic slab
The angle of refraction r=30o
Refractive index of the plastic slab n2=3
Refractive index of air n1=1
The angle of incidence i=?

Using Snell's law -
n1sin i=n2sin r
sin i=n2sin rn1=3×sin 30o1=32=sin 60o
i=60o
