The number of bonding electrons = 10

The number of anti-bonding electrons = 6

Bond order = Numberofelectronsinbonding-Numberofelectronsinantibonding2
Bond order = 10-62

Bond order = 42

Bond order = 2

Hence, the bond order for O2 is 2.
