Question

Calculate the electric energy in SI units, consumed by a 100 W bulb and 60 W fan connected in parallel for 5 minutes.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1- Given Data

The power rating of two bulbs, P1=100Wand P2=60W respectively.

Time t=5minutes=5×60=300seconds.

Step 2- Finding out the energy consumed by both the bulbs

Energy consumed by the bulb,

H=Pxt

So, the energy consumed by the first bulb is,

H1=P1xt=100x300=30000J

The energy consumed by the second bulb is,

H2=P2xt=60x300=18000J

Thus, the total energy consumed by the fan,

H=H1+H2=30000+18000=48000J.

Thus, the electric energy in SI units consumed by both the bulbs is,48000J.
