Question

Calculate the energy of the photon of the radiaiton having wave length 100nm.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Energy of Photon = hc/λ ............(1)
where [ h = plancks constant = 6.6 x 10-34 Jsec] and [ c = speed of light = 3 x 10 8 m/sec]
Now the wavelength of light given = 100 nm = 100 x 10-9 m
Putting all the values in equation ....(1)
E = (6.6 x 10-34 x 3 x 108 )/ 10-7 = 19.8 x 10-19 J = 1.98 x 10-18 J

So the energy associated with the photon = 1.98 x 10 -18 J
