Question

Calculate the equilibrium concentration ratio of C to A if equimolar ratio of A and B were allowed to come to equilibrium at 300K.
A(g)+B(g)C(g)+D(g);ΔGo=830 cal.

Solution

As we know,
ΔG0=RTlnK;

830=2×300×lnK

K=4.
For reaction:
A+BC+D
initial mole: 1 1 0 0
final mole: 1 - α 1 - α α α
For this reaction:
Keq=[C]×[D][A]×[B]=(α)(α)(1α)(1α)=4 so
Ratio of C to A is =(α)(1α)=2
