Question

Calculate the equilibrium constant for the reaction Fe+CuSO4FeSO4+Cu at 250C. Given E0(Fe/Fe2+)=0.44V,E0(Cu/Cu2+)=0.337V.

Solution

Eocell=EcathodeEanode
=0.44(0.337)
=0.44+0.337
=0.777
At equilibrium Ecell=0
So, Eocell=0.059/nlogKC
0.777=0.0592logKC
logKC=1.550.059 .
