Question

calculate the equivalent weight of ki in cuso4+ki=cu2i2+k2so4+i2

Open in App
Solution

DEAR STUDENT

The equivalent weight of KI should be 332 g, ie, the double of its mol. weight : 166g.

As it's n-factor is 0.5, the equi. weight is = Mol. Weight/n-factor.

First balance the equation:

2 CuSO4 + 4 KICu2I2 + 2 K2SO4 + I2

Now the O.S. of I in KI is -1, in I2 is 0 & Cu2I2 it is -1.

So for every 4 molecules of I, there is only a change of 1 oxidation state in 2 molecules of I.

So, n-factor of KI = 2/4 = 0.5
