Question

Calculate the equivalent weight of potassium dichromate with step by step explanation

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Potassium dichromate i.e K2Cr2O7 is a good oxidising agent and hence reduces itself efficiently. Here, the Cr in +6 oxidation state is reduced to +3 oxidation state. Since, there is an involvement of 3 electrons per Cr-atom, or 6 electrons per mole of K2Cr2O7 the equivalent weight of K2Cr2O7 is:

Eq. Wt.=Molecular weight6=294.186=49.03 g mol-1
