Question

Calculate the force required to accelerate a car from rest to a velocity of 30 m s1 in 10 seconds. The mass of the car is 1500 kg.

Open in App
Solution

Here, mass m = 1500 kg
Initial velocity, u = 0, final velocity, v = 30 m s1, time taken, t = 10 s.
Now, putting these values in the equation, v=u+at, we get
30=0+a×t,
10a=30
a=3 m s2
Now, putting m= 1500 kg and a = 3 m s2 in equation, F=m×a, we get
F=1500×3 = 4500 N.
Thus, the force required is 4500 N.
