Question

Calculate the gram atoms in 2.3 grams of sodium.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

1 gram atom is the mass of 1 mole of the mono-atomic element.
so, 1 mole of Na is equal to 2 gram-atom of N2.
23 g of Na = 1 mole of Na
Thus, 2.3 g of nitrogen will contain moles = 2.3g x 1 / 23 = 0.1 moles
Now, since 1 mole is equal to 1 gram-atom.
therefore, 0.1 mole would contain 0.1 gram-atom.
So, number of nitrogen atom = 0.1 × 6.022 ×1023 atoms = 6.022× 1022 atoms.
