Question

Calculate the heat of neutralization by mixing 200 mL of 0.1 M H2SO4 and 200 mL of 0.2 M KOH if heat generated by mixing is 2.3 kJ.

Open in App
Solution

Meq. of H2SO4=200×0.1×2=40 (H2SO4is dibasic)
Meq. of KOH = 200×0.2=40

40 Meq. ofH2SO4 and 40 Meq. of KOH on mixing gives heat

=2.3 kJ

1000 Meq. of H2SO4 and 1000 Meq. of KOH on mixing gives heat

=2.3×100040=57.5 kJ

=57.5kJ
