Question

calculate the length of the arm of the couple if a force of 13N produces a moment of a couple of14.3 N-m

Open in App
Solution

1. Definition:

Moment of a couple:

The tendency of a force is to rotate a body. It is measured by the moment of the force. The product of one of either force of a Couple and the perpendicular distance between their lines of action (called the arm of the Couple) is called the Moment of Couple.

moment of couple( τ ) = F × d

2. Solution:

given,

Moment of couple=14.3 N-m

Force=13 N

Moment of couple = Force x Arm of couple

14.3 N m = 13 N x Arm of couple

Arm of the couple is = 14.3/13

= 1.1 m

3. CONCLUSION:

Therefore the length of the arm of the couple is 1.1 m
