Question

Calculate the magnitude of force required to stop a car moving with a velocity of 30m/s in 10 seconds .The mass of the car is 1,500 kg

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,
Here in this question the given data is , mass of the car = 1500 kg, velocity of the car = 30 m/s and time taken ,t=10 seconds.
So , when the car stops the final velocity is zero .
Therefore ,from the equations of motion we get ,
v=u+ata=v-uta=0-3010=-3 m/s2Here negative sign denotes that after applyig force retardation occurs.
So the force required to stop the car is ,F =ma=1500×3=4500 N
