Question

Calculate the mass of 1 molecule of methane

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

The molecular mass of methane is 16u.
Thus, the molar mass that is the mass of 6.023 X 1023 molecules of methane will be 16g.
So, mass of 6.023 X 1023 molecules (one mole) of methane = 16g

mass of one molecule of methane = [16 / (6.023 X 1023) ]g

= 2.65 X 10-23g

Thus, the mass of one methane molecule will be 2.65 X 10-23g
