Question

Calculate the molar mass of
a) sodium sulphate
b) sodium hydrogen carbonate

Open in App
Solution

a) Molar mass of sodium = 23 g mol-1
Molar mass of sulphur = 32 g mol-1
Molar mass of oxygen = 16 g mol-1
Hence , molar mass of sodium sulphate (Na2SO4) = 2×23 + 32 + 4×16 = 142 g

b) Molar mass of hydrogen atom = 1 g mol-1
Molar mass of carbon = 12 g mol-1
Hence , molar mass of sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3)= 23 +1+12+3×16 = 84 g
