Question

Calculate the molecular mass of:

Lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2.

Open in App
Solution

Molecular mass:

  • Molecular mass of a substance is the number of times a molecule of the substance is heavier than 112th of mass of a carbon (C-12) atom.
  • Molecular mass of a substance can be obtained by adding the atomic masses of all the atoms present in a molecule of the substance.

The molecular mass of Lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2:

=Atomicmassoflead+2×(atomicmassofnitrogen)+6×(atomicmassofoxygen)=207+2×14+6×16=331a.m.u.

Therefore, the molecular mass of Lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2is 331a.m.u.
