Calculate the molecular masses of ferric chloride, lead nitrate, sodium carbonate,
hydrogen chloride and ammonium phosphate

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Atomic mass of Fe= 56 u ; Cl= 35.5u ; Pb= 207u ;N =14u ; O=16u ; Na=23u ;C= 12u ;H= 1u ; P= 31 u .
Molecule Name Constituent in molecule Molecular mass
Ferric chloride :FeCl3 1 Fe , 3 Cl 56 + 3*35.5 = 162.5 u
lead nitrate :Pb(NO3)2 1 Pb , 2 N , 6 O 207 + 2*14 + 6*16 = 331u
Sodium carbonate : Na2CO3 2 Na , 1 C , 3 O 23*2 + 12 + 3*16 = 106 u
Hydrogen chloride : HCl 1 H , 1 Cl 1 + 35.5 = 36.5 u
Ammonium phosphate : (NH4)3PO4 3 N , 12 H , 1 P , 4 O 3*14 + 12*1 + 31 +4*16 =149 u
